The National Postal Museum only retained material from the British Post Office concerning Great Britain, while a significant amount of foreign postal stationery had been given to the British Museum by the British Post Office. Examination of their holdings, which did not include Palestine, revealed that both mint stationery and stationery overprinted "Specimen" received this additional violet "Specimen" handstamp to confirm its status upon arrival in the United Kingdom (cf. accompanying letter from Angus Parker February 9, 1979, upon whose research this is based).
