A SUPERB CORNER MARGIN SINGLE OF UNSURPASSED QUALITY.
Expertization: 1988 P.F. Certificate.
There is not much one needs to say about this 5¢ brown Garfield corner copy. Our review of the Philatelic Foundation's records located only one other perfectly centered mint single with oversized margins. But given this stamp's crispness of the perforations, the framing by the selvage, the incredibly well preserved color, paper and gum, and just the sheer visual impact there is no other example that can begin to compare.

1883 Special Printing, 2¢ pale red brown (211B), choice centering within incredibly large margins, post office fresh color and prooflike impression. O.g., never hinged. Extremely Fine. Scott $725
THE 2¢ PALE RED BROWN SPECIAL PRINTING IS VIRTUALLY ALWAYS SEEN WITH SMALL MARGINS AND/OR POOR CENTERING. THE EXAMPLE OFFERED HERE, WITH ITS OVERSIZED MARGINS, EXCELLENT CENTERING AND REMARKABLE FRESHNESS IS AMONG THE HANDFUL THAT QUALIFY AS TRUE GEMS.
Expertization: 1997 and 1992 P. F. Certificates for stamp with bottom selvage which has been removed.
This 2¢ Special Printing, unlike the regularly issued 2¢ Brown (Scott #210), does not come with large margins. Therefore, we could not recall any other example beginning to approach the size of the present stamp. Reviewing all singles certified by the Philatelic Foundation confirmed our theory: this is truly the only beautifully centered, never hinged single with such large margins.
