Wise" Richmond, 1862 docketing, Extremely Fine, accompanied by CDV of the latter (Appleton & Co. imprint A.A. Turner, photographer - on back). A former governor of Virginia with no military training, Wise was appointed a Brigadier General in 1861; he served under Lee in the Western Virginia campaign and fought with distinction at Petersburg and Sayler's Creek. His brother-in-law was Union General George Meade.
