1847, 5¢ red brown (1), large to mostly huge margins, bright color approaching orange brown, fine impression, black "Paid" handstamp, not tied, matching "Brooklyn Ct. May 5" c.d.s. on buff envelope to Tolland, original 1851 enclosure, cover with small toned area at top edge, stamp an Extremely Fine gem.

THE ONLY RECORDED 1847 COVER FROM BROOKLYN.

Expertization: 1983 Brettl Certificate.

Brooklyn received no 1847 stamps of either denomination.

1847, 5¢ red brown (1), bottom right corner margin single with ample to huge margins, clear impression and attractive shade, pen cancelled and tied by magenta "Hartford Ct. Jul. 17" c.d.s. on small envelope to Plattsburgh, N.Y. with matching Pointing Hand "Paid" handstamp and large "5"; frugality or a shortage of paper compelled the sender to continue writing on the inside of the cover including all four flaps - this bleeds through somewhat but is not unattractive, Very Fine usage.

1847, 5¢ red brown (1), single with huge margins showing parts of four adjoining stamps, just touched bottom right, tied by blue grid, matching "Norwalk Ct. Aug 20" c.d.s. on 1850 folded letter to Rye, N.Y., manuscript "Paid" in corner; cover with a few expertly removed toned spots at top, stamp untouched but with small tear at top right, Very Fine appearance.

1847, 5¢ red brown (1), two covers, each with pen cancelled single in a matching late shade, each close margins to slightly in, on white envelopes to a Miss Hudson in Boston, Ms., one with "Southington Ct. 12 Feb." c.d.s. in purple with matching large "5" and "Paid" handstamp, other with same c.d.s. in green, also with a large "5" handstamp, rare and very fine exhibit pair.

Expertization: each with 1999 PSE Certificates.

Southington received no 1847stamps of either denomination---these two are the only recorded covers from there. Both covers have received negative P.F. Certificates in the past, but we concur with the two 1999 PSE Certificates describing them as genuine.
