1847, 5¢ orange brown (1b), large margins except clear at bottom left, gorgeous 1847 color and superb early impression, tied by blue grid, matching "Troy N.Y. May 2" c.d.s. on 1848 white envelope to London, England, manuscript "paid" opposite stamp and large manuscript shilling mark at left, manuscript "By Steamer Acadia/ via Boston" at lower left, red London receiving postmark on reverse; stamp with a light vertical pre-usage crease at left, still Very Fine, rare and handsome.

1847, 5¢ red brown (1), cracked "T" variety position 69R1,ample to large margins, tied by red grid on 1848 folded letter originating in Montreal and sent to Liverpool, manuscript "per Royal Mail Stmr/ from New York" with red "U.S. Express Boston Mass. Jun. 19" c.d.s. and faint large "5" in a different red, clear black shilling handstamp, all struck at top, reverse with Liverpool receiving postmark, Very Fine and rare.

Aug. 12" c.d.s. on 1847 folded letter to Dundee, Scotland, bold shilling handstamp alongside stamp, reverse with Liverpool and Dundee postmarks, in addition to "TOO LATE" in fancy frame; file folds, one passing beneath stamp but apparently not creasing it, and small hole in outer page of lettersheet at lower right, Fine, rare early transoceanic usage.

York N.Y. May 2" c.d.s. at far right, red "Colonies &c. Art. 13" boxed handstamp and bold black Boulogne-S-Mer c.d.s., manuscript 20 decimes due, London, Paris and Bordeaux backstamps; first line of address originally struck out in pen and mostly removed, Very Fine, very rare with this numeral handstamp used with an adhesive. Apr. 29" c.d.s. on 1851 legal size buff envelope to Wurttemburg, Germany, paying double the shore to ship rate via Havre, manuscript and red crayon due markings, red Havre transit, backstamps; cover lightly cleaned, portion of back flap missing, right stamp with tiny sealed tear at bottom, Fine and very rare.

May 12" c.d.s., stamps paid the over-300 miles rate, manuscript "p. America at New York" written along top edge, manuscript "¼" (Br.) due marking and large manuscript "100" Dutch cents at center, red italic" Engeland/ over Roterdam" struck on reverse; cover with some separations at folds and bleed through of contents, still Very Fine usage and rare.

Art. 13" accountancy handstamp, red orange Calais postmark and red manuscript "36" due, Very Fine, a beautiful and very rare usage. Illustrated in Alexander, p. 949.
