1847, 5¢ red brown (1), ample to large margins except clear at left, fine impression, tied by red "Fall River Ms. Jun 6" c.d.s. on 1849 folded cover to Norwich Ct. with matching "STEAM" and "5" rate handstamp; stamp with few minute indentations, Very Fine appearance, rare.

A copy of a letter from Maurice Blake describes this cover as having been carried on the steamer Admiral from St. John, N.B. via Eastport, with the stamp probably applied at Eastport or on board ship.

1847, 5¢ brown (1), ample to large margins, clear impression and attractive shade with nice grayish cast, manuscript. "X" cancel, on July 28, 1849 folded letter to Baltimore with manuscript. "Way" at center, letter datelined "Wrightsville" (Pa.); very faint toned spot at left, Very Fine appearance.

The seven recorded covers from Wrightsville, Pa. addressed to Henry James in Baltimore date from Apr. to Nov. 1849- four have Baltimore postmarks and are considered overpaid drop usages, the rest have only a manuscript "Way" marking. Most likely all these were carried by someone going to Baltimore by rail or stage- the way covers may have been handed to a stage line contractor.

1847, 5¢ brown (1), large margins to in at top, pre-print paper fold at left, clear sharp impression and handsome shade called dark brown by P.F., small manuscript "X" on Oct. 10, 1849 folded letter from Wrightsville Pa. to Baltimore with manuscript. "Way" written opposite stamp, letter begins,"I was mistaken about a way car agoing clear through the first day. They only go to York. So that car will not be at the switch till tomorrow." etc.; stamp with light horizontal crease from contents, Fine and rare usage.
