Nov. 18, manuscript postmark on ca. 1851 folded cover to Demopolis, Ala. with 3¢ orange brown (10), position 91R2e, corner margin copy with large to huge margins, matching pen strokes; cover with some natural bleach spots and missing right flap, stamp with tiny tear in sheet margin at bottom, still Very Fine, showy and very scarce.

Doaksville Ark. May 27, clear c.d.s. ties 3¢ dull red (11), large margins to slightly in, on undated folded cover to Col. Peter Pitchlynn in Washington, manuscript "Paid 3" written beneath stamp, Very Fine usage.
Estimate 200 - 300

Pitchlynn, the son of a white father and Choctaw mother, became a chief of the Choctaw tribe. An influential figure in Indian affairs, this cover may have been mailed to him while he was in Washington to negotiate and sign the Treaty of Washington in 1854.
