1852, 1¢ blue, type IV (9), position 7-27R1L, top stamp recut once at bottom, bottom pair each recut once at top and once at bottom, a highly desirable vertical strip of three, with the top stamp being from the coveted position 7R1L, which of course is the well-known position that yielded the enormously rare type I stamps in the early state of the plate, this example does not have a plate bruise in the sheet margin characteristic of the later printings, ample to mostly huge margins all around, rich color and razor-sharp impression, "Paid" in grid cancels and portion of a red Boston c.d.s. Faint horizontal crease in bottom stamp. Otherwise Extremely Fine includes the cover from which this was taken with original 1853 dated enclosure.
