U.S. 1861, 1¢ blue (63), two covers, first has single tied by grid cancel on an unsealed letter, "Calais, Me Dec 24, 1861" datestamp to Kingston, N.B., manuscript "1" cent due marking for Canadian portion of postage; second cover has a pair cancelled by indistinct Portland, ME. double circle postmarks, on printed circular to New Castle, N.B. dated Mar. 15, 1862, 2¢ pair seems to have been accepted for payment of both the U.S. and Canadian rates contrary to regulations, light file fold, F-VF pair.
