1908, 2¢ carmine, Brinkerhoff type I perfs (344), vertical combination strip of 5. Sedalia, Mo. oval cancels. Type II holes trimmed at top. Very Fine and perhaps unique.

This piece was probably used as a trial of the 2-hole type II perforations after the 4-hole type I perforations proved unsatisfactory. It was then apparently salvaged by a Brinkerhoff employee in Sedalia and used for postage on a registered letter.

1908, 2¢ carmine, Brinkerhoff type II perfs (344), single with three sets of Brinkerhoff perforations tied by neat Clinton, Iowa flag cancel, April 27, 1910, on legal size cover with Brinkerhoff corner card to Des Moines; stamp slightly damaged by corner crease in envelope. Fine.

An interesting item, the result of experimentation with the 2-hole type II perforations.

1908, 2¢ carmine, Mail-O-Meter type I perfs (344), tied by St. Louis machine cancel, June 4, 1911, on picture postcard to Vienna, Austria, light creasing and minor soiling, Fine. Private vending machine stamps used to overseas destinations are very uncommon, particularly the early ones.

Card is of Cuban manufacture and features a multicolor "cigar seller". The message, written in German, makes reference to cigars.

The sideways coils were produced for a small low-priced vending machine developed for use on store counters. They saw little use and covers with correctly used type II coils are rare.
