This error is caused by the overprint on the left pane of the 200-suject plate being shifted to the right, thereby leaving the left vertical row of that same left pane with no overprint (Scott #56d, CASG #56c.II). Since there are only 20 of this latter error recorded, and 30 of the double "ZONE" error, it is likely that authorities discovered the third pane and either destroyed it or removed the ten unoverprinted stamps.

Canal Zone 1920, 2c orange vermilion & black, "CANAL" double (56h), o.g. Fresh Fine appearance. Only 20 issued. CZSG 56e.
Scott $1,000

This error was caused by a shift similar to that of the double "ZONE" error, though, in this instance, the overprint was shifted to the left on the right pane of 100 leaving the right vertical row without an overprint. Just as with the double "ZONE", there is a discrepancy of ten between the numbers recorded of the double "CANAL" error (20) and the omitted overprint (10 [an 11th was caused by a foldover]). Again it is probable that the other ten stamps with the missing overprint were destroyed by authorities.
