According to Robert Gibbs, "one horizontal row of four of this error of value may well have been part of the official issue." Such varieties of the mark values, irrespective of their debatable unofficial status, are "extremely rare and have no genuine counterparts," and as such "are both desirable and valuable." This stamp realised £290 in the 1959 Bute sale.

The first printing of the 1sh on 1m consisted of 100 stamps erroneously reading "1 Shillings." The error was corrected on the second and third printings, but those printings consisted of only twenty and fifteen copies, respectively.
