German New Guinea 1888, New Guinea Company 2mk parcel card (Michel 1), for a 3.2kg. parcel sent from the Astrolabe Co. in Friedrich-Wilhelmshafen to its headquarters in Berlin via Finschafen or Soerabaya, postmarked "Hatzfeldthafen, 23.12, 90" c.d.s., handstamped New Guinea Company seal featuring a lion motif, folded between card and receipt.

ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED PARCEL CARDS WITH A HANDSTAMPED POSTMARK — THE OTHER BEING FROM FINSCHAFEN. IN ADDITION, ONLY TWO USED CARDS WITH THE RECEIPT STILL ATTACHED ARE KNOWN.

Expertization: 2002 Provinsky Certificate.

As recently proved by F. Grieshaber, these parcel cards were legitimately used by the New Guinea Company. See Berichte, 12/05.

German New Guinea 1888 (27 Feb.) 10pf postal card from Finschhafen to Zechlay (8.5), backstamped Cooktown (5.3) and Brisbane (11.3), Queensland; corner crease and light foxing, Fine. Very rarely was mail marked with two different transit handstamps within the same postal authority.

German New Guinea 1889 (17 May) registered envelope from Konstantinhafen to Serajevo, Bosnia (13.7), via Soerabaja (4.6) and Weltevreden (7.6), Dutch Indies and Genoa, Italy (10.7), bearing pair of 1880 20pf blue (V42c) tied by two of three strikes Konstantinhafen c.d.s., Konstantinhafen registration label and Genoa registration handstamp; light file folds, left stamp with rounded corner. A Fine and exceedingly rare usage.

With original multipage letter from family members. Dr. Weinland died from malaria while this letter was in transit.

German New Guinea 1891 (11 Apr.) large registered envelope from Stephansort to Förde, bearing 1875 2mk dull violet purple strip of three (V37d), 1880 50pf grey olive green pair (V44b) and 1889 20pf ultramarine (V48a) tied by small Stephansort c.d.s.s., backstamped Grevenbrück (30.6); both the 10" x 8½" linen-lined envelope and the stamps have some faults but an incredible 37-times franking sent by Superintendent Fritz Rose. The only recorded use of the 2mk dull violet purple from New Guinea.

The date of the cover was extrapolated from the No. 92 of the registration label and the date of the backstamp. Carried on the first trip of the "Schwalbe".
