This cancel is similar to New York's foreign mail cancels but is part of a duplex device that was used only domestically. It is normally seen on 2¢ drop letters and is quite rare on the higher values.

A DRAMATIC BANK NOTE VARIETY CLEARLY SHOWING A SECOND IMPRESSION OF THE PLATE NUMBER IN THE DESIGN.

Expertization: 1988 P.F. Certificate.

This stamp is the only recorded Bank Note double impression showing a plate number. The certificate states it is a genuine 147b showing a partial double impression that includes plate "No. 29" in the design.

This double impression of the marginal markings is similar to the Official 3¢ Treasury stamp with imprint doubled in the design that was offered in the Markovits sale (lot 3179).
