The large unprinted left margin of this stamp, though likely a sheet margin, could also have been caused by an "overlap", a peculiarity of the Richardson printings. At least two sheets of paper had to be put into the press to cover the printing plate and where the sheets overlapped, incomplete stamps were often the result. In this case, a second sheet could often have come right up to the left edge of this stamp and another stamp could have been printed on the very edge of this second sheet.
