1850 (Feb. 13) New York, N.Y. to San Francisco, Cal., long 3-page gold rush letter from merchant returning to Cal. to open a store (plus another near the mines), bold "New-York '40' Feb 13" c.d.s., endorsed "Steamer 'Ohio'", contents include prospects for store, advises addressee to not go to the mines, writer's previous trip to S.F., news of maritime disasters (explosion and great loss of life in The Hague on the 'Hottingner', wreck of steamboat 'Rhode Island' bound to Cal.). A Fine Gold Rush letter.
