1851-56, 3¢ Imperforates, Dr. Carroll Chase's Plate Reconstruction Photographs, set of 26 black & white photographs made from Chase's original negatives, 11" x 14", each reproducing, in actual size, a left or a right pane from Chase's reconstruction of the 13 plates used to print the 3¢ imperforates, complete with his handwritten notes in the margins of the display pages. Though a few positions have been found to be inaccurate in recent years, this is still the definitive source for would-be platers of the 3¢ imperfs.

3¢ Dull Red, Type II (11A), complete reconstruction of the "three rows", the 8th, 9th and 10th vertical rows from the left pane of Plate 3, 27 singles and two pairs (position is represented by a single and in a pair with position 30), nearly all with four margins, mounted by Dr Chase on 3 x 5 cards and identified as "'3 rows'. Plate 3, Left Pane, 1854 shade". A marvelous set.

An excellent, Fine to Very Fine group.

1852-56, 3¢ Types I/Ii (11/11A), Cancellation group, 71 singles or pairs, all with different premium cancels including stars, unusual geometrics and paids, numerals, WAY, STEAM, Railroad, colors (including a purple grid and 19 greens), better town cancels including a magenta Texas town; condition is somewhat mixed, because all were chosen for their cancel, but the majority are F-VF. A terrific lot. Scott value just for listed cancels is over $3,200.

1852-56, 3¢ Types I/Ii (11/11A), Partial reconstructions, primarily plate 1L (about 90 positions), plate 2L (105) and plate 3 (170); there are more than 20 pairs and two strips of 3 (a few of which duplicate singles); also more than 65 sheet margins including 11 with corner margins, 18 with centerlines and 8 with partial imprints; also includes about 30 from plate 4 and 20 from plate 5L; well over 425 stamps in all. Condition is very mixed and there aren't many 4-margin copies, but the majority are Fine or better and there are plenty of useful stamps including nice "line through Three Cents" and "5 lines recut UL triangle"; positions, which have all been penciled on the backs in various hands—many by Chase— cannot be guaranteed. A very good start on this popular specialty.

1855, 10¢ Green, Types II & III (14-15), selection of three type II and four type III, the latter including a pair; the type IIs cancel are a Chicopee, Mass. 6-point star and a New (grid) York Ocean Mail c.d.s.; the type IIIs are a San Francisco town cancel, a black grid and (on the pair) a straightline "PAID"; all with mostly very minor flaws, the Chicopee is cut in at bottom and the pair has a small scissor cut in the right stamp while the left is cut in; otherwise a VF appearing group.
