Newfoundland, 1857, 8d scarlet vermilion, bisected (8a), lower left diagonal half with ample to large margins lightly tied across cut on 1860 folded letter to balto, postmarked red St. John's exchange office c.d.s., Oct 24, and black "Boston Br. Pkt." c.d.s. with integral "5" rate, manuscript "p Mail via Halifax"; docketing at lower right, stamp with faint corner crease at bottom (not mentioned on accompanying certificate), fresh and otherwise Very Fine. Letter is a handwritten list of St. John's prices current.
