ONLY A FEW OF THE UNWATERMARKED 30¢ PERF. 10 STAMPS COULD EVER BE CALLED WELL CENTERED. THIS IS UNQUESTIONABLY ONE OF THE FINEST OF THESE. IT IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO RECEIVE A GRADE AS HIGH AS 90 FROM THE PHILATELIC FOUNDATION.

The majority of the 30¢ perf. 10's on watermarked paper come with perforations cutting into or touching the design on one side and many are straight edged or have condition problems.

A REMARKABLE EXAMPLE OF THE RAREST OF THE 5¢ ERRORS OF COLOR IN THE FINEST POSSIBLE CONDITION.

Provenance: Minervino

Reportedly, New York City was the only post office to receive a supply of 2¢ imperforates printed from plate 7942, the plate containing the 5¢ errors. They sold only 48 uncut sheets of 400 before the error was discovered and recalled by the Bureau. Each of the 48 sheets contained three errors, making a total of 144 the maximum number that can exist, and only 48 each of either the single or the double error blocks. Undoubtedly, some of those 96 blocks have been cut up. (e.g., see our preceding lot).
