1908, 2¢ carmine Foreign entry of 1¢ design (332 var.), average centering as are most of the dozen or so recorded used examples, intense shade. Small thin and light creases, not mentioned on accompanying certificate. Fine appearance.

Expertization: 1983 P.F. Certificate.

The reason for the scarcity of this variety is the fact that only one of the 8,000+ positions on the 200+ plates used to print these 2 cent stamps featured the erasure of the 1 cent design.

1909, 5¢ blue, imperf, vertical coil (347V), two singles tied by New York registry oval cancels on registered 2¢ carmine on blue entire (U414) to Gotha Germany, postmarked on reverse July 24, 1911, which had been the previous EDU, plus other backstamps including U.S. Seapost and Gotha receiver, fresh and Very Fine, an exceedingly rare usage of the 5¢ vertical imperforate coil, of which there are probably less than 5 covers known.

Barely noticeable tiny nick at top edge of right stamp, lightly cancelled. Choice Very Fine appearance, a handsome example of this rare used line pair, of which less than 10 have been certified by the Philatelic Foundation.
