Expertization: with 1997 A.P.S. certificate and Ward backstamp.

Large parts of both panes were defaced by inspectors' blue pencil markings. According to Datz, only about 40-50 are believed to have escaped these markings.

Because the 1¢ rotary press perf. 11 was not identified as a separate variety until two years after it was issued, most were lost to philately; only about 100 examples have been recorded to date. The vast majority of those are poorly centered and/or faulty. Scott's value is for examples "with perforations just touching frameline on one side".
