1870, 90¢ carmine (155), original gum, lightly hinged, perfectly centered within generous margins for the issue, warm rich color. Extremely Fine to Superb . SMQ $18,500. Scott $5,000
A SUPERB 90¢ NATIONAL IN THE FINEST QUALITY AVAILABLE, BEING THE HIGHEST GRADED MINT SINGLE, A DISTINCTION IT SHARES WITH ONLY ONE OTHER EXAMPLE.
Expertization: with 2005 P.S.E. certificate graded XF-SUP 95.
The 90¢ Nationals, similar to the 30¢ values, come with notoriously small margins as evidenced by the fact that the PSE has not graded any mint examples as a jumbo. Moreover, as a group, they do not come well centered. The present example, therefore, should elicit your most careful consideration as it may well be the finest extant.
