1847, 5¢ red brown (1), ample to large margins, clear impression and attractive shade with nice grayish cast, manuscript. "X" cancel, on July 28, 1849 folded letter to Baltimore with manuscript. "Way" at center, letter datelined "Wrightsville" (Pa.); very faint toned spot at left, Very Fine appearance.

The seven recorded covers from Wrightsville, Pa. addressed to Henry James in Baltimore date from Apr. to Nov. 1849— four have Baltimore postmarks and are considered overpaid drop usages, the rest have only a manuscript "Way" marking. Mostly likely all these were carried by someone going to Baltimore by rail or stage— the way covers may have been handed to a stage line contractor.

1847, 5¢ red brown (1), large margins at sides, full to clear at top and bottom, stunning color, tied by red square grid on buff envelope to a Mrs. David Stone, New York City, no contents, fresh and Very Fine. A handful of 5¢ 1847 covers are known addressed to either Philadelphia or New York which received a grid or numeral cancel but no townmarks after arriving on either a west or east bound train, though in this particular case a drop usage remains a possibility.

1847, 5¢ red brown (1), ample to large margins, bright color on particularly blued paper, tied by blue grid, matching "Palmyra N.Y. Sept 23" c.d.s. on 1850 envelope to Hamilton, Canada West with "Queentown U.C. Sep 25 1850" circular d.s., manuscript "4½" due, and arrival backstamps of Sept 26, stamp has three tears in various places, cover faulty at left and flap at back missing.

Morgan, the remaining contents suggest this was written outside of New York (most likely Canada), though it was the opinion of C.C. Hart that this was a drop usage, Very Fine and scarce.
