Sale 255

Lot 175

Canada, Balance of the Harrison Money-Letter Collection, about 150 stampless covers spanning the period from 1803 to 1855 and tracing the evolution of postal rates and the refinement of the money-letter system as it grew into what became registered mail. Present is a wide array of markings, both manuscript and handstamped, the latter of which includes an extensive assortment of both government supplied and locally manufactured handstamps. The collection is still on Harrison's meticulously researched and written-up exhibition pages. A tremendous lot and one that, needless to say, would be virtually impossible to put together today.
