Canada, Stampless cover to France via the U.K., small envelope from Quebec to the Mayor of La Rochelle, postmarked red Quebec c.d.s., March 4, 1856 with red straight line "REGISTERED" and "PAID" plus manuscript rates "2/7" (sterling) and 3/2 (Canadian), British crowned "REGISTERED", Liverpool PAID c.d.s., march 24 (?) and London PAID octagon March 27, French "PD" in oval and straight line "CHARGÉ" and Calais entry c.d.s. March 28, all but the last two markings in red, three different French backstamps including La Rochelle March 29, Very Fine and very scarce paid all the way to destination.

Postage was assessed as follows: B.N.A. internal postage 4d (2d per ¼ oz.), U.S. transit via Boston 2d (for the ½ oz.), U.K. sea and internal transits 20d (10d per ¼ oz.), and French Internal 5d (2½d per ¼ oz.) for a total of 31d or 2/7 sterling (3/2 Canadian).
