Canada, 1852, 3d red, thin paper (4d), horizontal pair, four nice margins, tied by target cancels on Prosser correspondence cover from Oakville, C.W. to New York, postmarked Oakville broken circle, March 19, 1856, with two strikes straight line "REGISTERED", one entirely on the stamps, no other markings; minor corner bend left stamp, mounting remnants on reverse, and a little insignificant edge wear, still fresh and Very Fine, one of only three such frankings recorded.

The pair paid the 6d cross-border postage with the 1d domestic registry fee being paid in cash. Registered mail began in Canada on May 1, 1855 and in the U.S. on July 1st of the same year, but registry service between the two was not established until October 1, 1856.
