Northern Rhodesia, 1952 (Aug. 13) cover written in native hand to Mkushi (Aug. 17), bearing ½d pair cancelled by origin c.d.s. and Postage Due 1953 (July 1) Provisional typewritten surcharge "postage/ due/1," in red on 1d green and "POSTAGE/DUE/1d." in red on 1d green (roughly separated into design at top), each neatly tied by "Mkushi/Northern Rhodesia" c.d.s., envelope has central vertical filing fold, very rare and outstanding cover, approximately a dozen covers known with this Provisional which the sub-postmaster authorized following the increase in the internal letter rate from 1½d to 2d, which resulted in the depletion of stocks of Postage Due stamps at Mkushi, and this is the unique example of the upper and lower case surcharges used together.
