Lot 613

Canada, 1888, 3¢ bright vermilion (41), tied by Montreal involute flag cancel, Nov 15, 1997, paying forwarding postage on an attractive illustrated Hotel cover originating in Italy with 25¢ blue Victor Emmanuel tied by Rome squared circle with an illegible date, cover readdressed in red ink to Boston, original Montreal Nov 13, final Boston backstamp Nov 16; Fine-Very Fine and most unusual.

The sender had endorsed the cover "Please forward" and had the cover been redirected from within the post office, no additional postage would have been necessary. However, it was apparently delivered to the address shown and was readdressed by someone there. Hence the need for the Canadian 3¢ stamp to pay the normal letter rate to the U.S.
