Lot 1139

Churchill, Winston S. (1874-1965), British statesman, WW II Prime Minister, Nobel Prize for Literature. TLS on 9 ½ x 7 ½ Hyde Park Gate, London letterhead (which has been crossed out and "at La Capponcina, Cap d'Ail" typed in), Sept. 18, 1955. Churchill writes Ambassador Guillermo de Blanck thanking him for his welcoming letter and gifts, and when Churchill has exhausted the possibilities of the Capponcina he would be delighted to accept the offer of his villa "as a new painting point". As Churchill is rather tired he does not anticipate leaving the garden for some time. Churchill had just been turned out of office as Prime Minister. Painting was his hobby, along with masonry.
