Chaliapin, Fyodor (1873-1938), Russian opera & concert bass, to U.S. 1921. Two items. A) 8 x 10 photograph of the singer reading a music manuscript, inscribed in Russian with sentiment, dated 1930. Few creases and wrinkles, mounted on same size board. B) ALS in Russian, no place, no date, 2pp. (1st and 2nd pages of a folded sheet), with translation. Chaliapin writes a woman, Antonina Vasilyevna, asks her to see her acquaintance, the Moscow City Elementary School supervisor about getting a young teacher friend of Chaliapin's transferred from her village school to a city position. With holograph addressed and signed envelope.
