1847, 5¢ red brown (1), vertical pair, full to large margins, beautiful color ("Ridgeway's Dark Russet" as noted by Ashbrook on back), just tied by red grids lightly struck on buff envelope to Columbus, O. with matching "Portland Me. 9 Jul. 10" c.d.s. at right, reverse with die cut label, "Eastern Telegraph/Umpire Block/Main St./Portland Me." in gold on blackish blue used to seal flap, original 1849 enclosure; cover with trivial toned spot at top that barely touches the margin of the pair, still a Very Fine cover with an exceptionally handsome pair plus, the use of the telegraph label is exceedingly rare.
