THE ONLY RECORDED 1847 COVER FROM MONTICELLO.
The destruction of Mississippi homes and offices during the Civil War wiped out entire correspondences, which accounts for the small number of 1847 covers (28) recorded. Just nine 5¢ covers are known, with only four of these having been used within the state.
