1847, 5¢ red brown (1), large margins to clear at bottom, attractive fine impression and shade, pen canceled, on buff envelope to New Haven with light but complete strike of "Binghamton, N.Y. May 25" straightline postmark in red at upper left, town in address underlined in blue pen; cover with slight discoloration at upper left and lower right from ancient corner mounts, stamp with light horizontal crease prior to use, Very Fine appearance.

Straightline towns are among the rarest postmarks in the 1847 period, and only two, this cover and an off-cover 5¢ with a black Connecticut town, have been certified.
