ONE OF TWO RECORDED 1847 COVERS WITH THIS HOTEL MARKING.

Provenance: Garrett

Saratoga Springs received no 1847 stamps of either denomination. The town's popularity as a resort must be considered when discussing the number of covers (15) recorded from here- a comparison of shades may determine whether a supply of stamps was obtained from a nearby town. However, a more likely scenario is that stamps were carried by visitors in anticipation of letters to friends. No 10¢ covers are known.

Realized $2,300
