1847, 5¢ red brown (1), large to huge margins including bottom sheet margin, clear at top, darker shade with fine impression, tied by red square grid on 1850 folded letter to Litchfield Ct., matching "New-York Jun 22" c.d.s., letterhead is magnificent engraving of harpooned whale and six whalers in small boat of Saml. Judd's Sons & Co., part of a past due purchase order (Dec. 31, 1849) for 4 barrels of bleached winter whale oil and 4 barrels of sperm oil; toning along fold does not affect engraving, still Very Fine, a very rare showpiece (lettersheet has been folded to display both stamp and engraving).
