Post Office Dept., 1873, 3¢ black (O49), pair with cork cancels plus regular postage 1873 1¢ and 12¢ (156, 162) with the same cancels, on registered Post Office Dept. envelope to Plymouth Union, Maine, fragment of registered letter receipt remains on reverse; reduced a tad at left, slight perforation toning, one 3¢ missing corner, otherwise Very Fine, triple the 3¢ domestic rate plus 10¢ for registration.

The 13¢ in stamps was apparently submitted by the addressee along with his order for special printings. The post office, as a courtesy, added the pair of 3¢ stamps to make up the difference between the single 3¢ rate anticipated by the addressee and the actual triple rate 9¢.
