Newfoundland 1857, 8d scarlet vermilion, bisected horizontally (8a), with 3d green (3, SG3), with huge to large margins (ample on 3d), well tied by oval of bars and the 3d additionally by "St. Johns Newfoundland Paid/AU 21 1861" rimless c.d.s. in red on envelope to Essex, Vermont, showing "Harbor Britain/AU 14 1861" double arc origin d.s. and "5 Boston Br. Pkt./Sep 5" c.d.s. adjacent, envelope has vertical filing fold well to right of stamps and small central stain from the wax seal which is now missing, Very Fine example of the 6 pence ½ penny stg. rate from the interior to a U.S. port.
