New Britain, 1914, 1s on 1m carmine, variety additionally surcharged "1d" above "G.R.I." and a second time at upper right (SG 59 var./ Gibbs 10d), Setting III, position 3, the 1d values are types 5 and 6, deep color, excellent centering, the stamp was surcharged while on backing paper, much of which still adherences, small part o.g., some uniform slight thinning where gum or paper flaked or peeled off, nevertheless. Very Fine. One of the most extraordinary varieties on Marshall Islands. Illustrated in Gibbs, page 125. Michel 10I var.
