1863 (Aug. 31) Sheffield, Mass. to Singapore, c.d.s. with matching grids tying three 30c orange (71) singles and 24¢ lilac (78), endorsed "via Marseilles", red "Boston Br. Pkt. Sep 3" exchange office backstamp, red crayon "96/2" credit (2-times 48¢), red "London SP 14 '63" transit, red manuscript "2c"; slightly reduced at top and no flap, 24¢ with natural straight edge, minor edge wear, still a Very Fine usage to a rare destination; 8¢ overpayment of double the 53¢ British Mail rate via Marseilles.
RARE DOUBLE RATE USAGE TO SINGAPORE.

The sender apparently franked the cover at double the 57¢ British mail rate via Marseilles that expired on May 31, 1863. The rate was lowered to 53¢ on June 1, 1863.
