1862 (Mar. 22) New York to Shanghai, China, "N. York Am. Pkt." c.d.s. on reverse, cover bearing 90¢ blue (72) tied by red New York foreign mail grid along with 12¢ black (69), natural s.e., and two 3¢ rose (65) singles cancelled by matching red grids, endorsed "prepaid overland" and "via Marseilles", magenta "66" credit, red "London Paid AP 4 '62" transit c.d.s. and red "2d" handstamp, "Hong Kong MY 2 '62" backstamp, docketing at right; cover refolded at top and bottom, 12¢ and 3¢ stamps damaged from edge placement, 3¢ at bottom skillfully repaired, still a fresh and Fine usage; 1.08¢ British mail rate via Marseilles for letters weighing over ½ ounce but not over ¾ ounce.
