Formed on 28 January 1915, the South African Aviation Corps, consisted of aviators who had trained in England. They disembarked in South West Africa with six planes in April, 1915. A first flight took place at Walfish Bay on June 5.
The Germans had two planes and Willi Trück flew these to observe troop advancements along the railway line in the South. Sometimes, he also bombed the advancing troops.
