Lot 3042
1866, 15¢ black (77), well centered with unusually large margins, a razor-sharp impression on bright paper and full, lightly hinged original gum. Exceptionally fresh and Extremely Fine. Scott $4,000
WITH ITS BRILLIANT COLOR AND EXCEPTIONAL CENTERING, THIS 15¢ LINCOLN IS EASILY AMONG THE FINEST OF SURVIVING WELL CENTERED MINT EXAMPLES.
Expertization: 1979, 1997 and 2004 P.F. Certificates.
The 15¢ Lincoln is notorious for poor centering, and very few unused examples have retained their original gum. A well centered mint 15¢ is a true 19th Century rarity.
