Confederacy, Thru-the-Lines cover via Louisville, to Northampton Mass., originally franked with a 3¢ dull red (26), pen canceled but apparently not accepted at Louisville; a second 3¢ stamp was placed over the first and canceled by a blue grid with a matching Aug. 15, 1861 Louisville c.d.s. alongside; top stamp lifted for examination and hinged back, cover with two small corner mends, Very Fine appearance, a rare and fascinating "Southern Letter Unpaid" usage.
