Stemmed Leaf (Weiss RE-LF5), bold strike ties 10¢ brown (150), well centered with rich color, on 1870 folded cover to Geneva, Switzerland, endorsed per "Hermann", red "New York Paid All Br. Transit Jun 2" exchange c.d.s., Berne (6.15) and Basel (6.17) backstamps; some soiling, Very Fine and scarce cancellation. Estimate $400 - 500

An early use of the 10¢ bank note that prepays the 10¢ Swiss closed mail rate via England effective May 1, 1870. Carried on the NGL Line "Hermann" that arrived at Southampton on June 13, 1870.
