A CHOICE TYPE A SUPPLEMENTARY MAIL USE TO GERMANY, ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH SUCH A CLEAR STRIKE OF THE TYPE A HANDSTAMP.

Cover was carried by Hapag Line "Thuringia" that arrived at Hamburg on July 2, 1872. The 12¢ postage prepays the 6¢ direct mail treaty rate plus 6¢ supplementary mail fee. The type A supplementary mail handstamps are usually found poorly struck and difficult to read during the Bank Note time period of use.
