Lot 193

Honolulu, Hawaii (FX-HO1 var.), registration no. "2866" applied with a manual numbering machine, on a fabulous registered round-the-world coveroriginating in New York City on June 17, 1903 and traveling through 14 cities in 11 countries, winding up back in New York on June 14, 1904; also present are exchange office registry labels from San Francisco, Hong Kong & British Guiana. As would be expected, despite being a heavy, linen-lined envelope (about 12" x 5"), the cover is somewhat battered, as are some of the stamps. It is, nonetheless, quite a remarkable piece of postal history.predating by many years the proliferation of such covers after the introduction of round-the-world airmail. One of only 7 known Honolulu labels.
