May 13" c.d.s. at left, red New York transit, twice struck "5" decimes due handstamp, no backstamps, cover with small tear at top from opening (also affecting 2¢ which has a minute tear at top left), Very Fine usage, gorgeous appearance. This paid the old 15¢ French mail rate which expired Dec. 31, 1869, and was overpaid by 5¢.
