Pa. 10 Feb. 15" c.d.s. on 8" x 5¼" homemade brown envelope to Flemington, N.J. paying a double rate, with enclosure consisting of a glazed Valentine envelope in gold on white with hand-colored address panel, same name ("Miss. Mary Capner") at center; each stamp with small tear at top, Very Fine appearance, unusual usage.

By making his own envelope the sender took care to protect the glazed envelope from being "defaced" by stamps and a postmark. It is ironic that the valentine itself is lost, while the plain brown outer envelope, the most expendable part of the package from the point of view of the recipient, is not only still in existence but is well preserved.
