Floyd's Penny Post, 1860 (1¢) green (68L3), large to oversized margins, tied by "Floyd's Penny Post Chicago" circular handstamp on 3¢ entire (U35) to Atlanta, Ga., entire postmarked Chicago target duplex, Nov 3, 1862, manuscript docketing "Corey & Dwight, Nov 4th 1862" at left; opened a bit roughly at right, vertical file fold at center, fresh and Very Fine. Unpriced by Scott.

Floyd's Penny Post was a local post operating in Chicago, Ill. from July 1860 to at least November of 1862. The post issued stamps in brown, blue, and green. The brown and blue stamps were the first to be issued in 1860, the blue being used until the end of the post. The green stamp was most likely the last printing with the known usages being Oct 21 and Nov 2 of 1862.

Glen Haven Daily Mail was a local post operating out of the town of Glen Haven, N.Y. The post served as supplementary carrier service on mail eminating from the local sanitarium due to the lack of a local post office. The post moved mail to the nearest U.S. Post Office in either Scott (about 3 miles away) or Homer (about ten miles away).

The cover was carried outside the mails to Philadelphia where it was dropped at the Telegraph Despatch office for delivery. Contents comprises an order for zinc, tin, and brass from the Philadelphia metal supplier, Nathan Trotter & Co., a firm that was eastablished in 1792 and is still in the same business today.
