1899 (Sep. 6) "Agana, Isle of Guam", type 1.1 straightline postmark with separate datestamp tying 1¢ dark green, 2¢ red (1,2) on cover to Greenfield, Mass., reverse with "Mil. Sta. No.1 Manila Phil Isl'date stamp Rec'd Sep 14" transit c.d.s. (Baker CE-1) and Greefield Oct 23 receiver, soiled and edgewear, tear at top, Fine usage, scarce postmark.

The type 1.1 postmark was the first marking used under the U.S. administration on Guam. It was used by the Navy Department operation first on the Yomesite, and later in Agana when the post office moved ashore.

1900 (Feb. 24) "San Luis D'Apra, Guam", type 1.6 straightline postmark with separate datestamp tying 1¢ 2¢ and 5¢ (1, 2, 5), two partial strikes of "bear's paw" grids, on cover to Robert E. Cox, Altoona, Pa., backstamped San Francisco Mar 22 and Altoona Mar 27; gum stains around 1¢ and 2¢ Fine-Very Fine.

When the Guam post office was moved ashore in November of 1899, the Yosemite moved to a more secure anchorage at San Luis d'Apra harbor. Its mail facilities remained an unofficial branch of the Guam post office until the ship was lost to a typhoon in November of 1900. This cancelling device, along with Murphy's type 1.7, is believed to have been privately fabricated aboard the Yosemite.

"The type 1.2 postmark and 2.1 canceller are carryover postal devices from the Spanish postal administration. It is believed they were used on shore in Agana before the Navy post office was moved there from the 'Yomesite'. During the U.S. period of use, the year slug was removed (or became lost) and was replaced by an inked segement resembling a half-moon." (from Murphy).

(10.24) backstamps, manuscript "U.S.S. Yomesite / Guam" corner card, extra gum around perfs, Very Fine usage, exceedingly scarce postmark.

This is the second type of postmark that appears to have been used on board the 'Yomesite' while at San Luis d'Apra Harbor. The type 1.6 postmark is recorded as last used on July 11. The type 1.7 starting use on July 15 most likely as a replacement for cancelling mail that originated on board the 'Yomesite'.
